Digital Media Networking Event

On Wednesday 28th September, Redgrave Partners held the inaugural digital media networking event at the Hospital Club, which attracted an audience of executives across the digital, media and entertainment space.

The speakers were:

Theresa Wise - a high profile Media Consultant and former SVP at Walt Disney following her earlier career as Partner, global digital/internet practice at Accenture. 

Chris van der Kuyl - CEO, brightsolid (DC Thomson), a highly experienced Chief Executive and Non-Executive Director (“NXD”) whose expertise combines the start-up, development and market listed business arena in the technology, media and entertainment sectors.

Theresa delivered an interesting and informative talk on:

‘Brand on the Run’ - how can traditional brands deal with digital disruption?

Theresa described four categories of brands: guarantor brands, recommender brands, badge brands and category source brands.

She then talked about how brands are distributed. “Word of mouth steroids” e.g. Twitter and YouTube giving brands more visibility is a phenomenon that has driven a huge increase budgets for digital. Recommendation engines have stolen the impact of consumer decision making. Theresa also discussed the importance of digital models and austerity. An increase in the use of coupons has resulted in a move away from aspirational / indulgence brands.

In summary, it is great to be able to build a strong brand, product or service but this is not effective unless the market knows about them. Effective brand distribution is key.

Chris then discussed the following topic:

Chris spoke with his usual exuberance around the emergence of brightsolid which began life in 1995 as Scotland Online.  It now has two divisions - brightsolid online publishing and brightsolid online technology. brightsolid’s online technology is a leading UK independent provider of online IT business services.  brightsolid online publishing has a number of innovative online businesses around people and places including Friends Reunited, Genes Reunited and Findmypath.co.uk.

With the considerable growth and interest in exploring family histories, brightsolid has partnered with UKTV for the first product placement deal for its free air factual channel, Yesterday. It will be co-funded by the brightsolid-owned family history site findmypast.co.uk and UKTV which is the biggest advertiser funded programme (AFP) deal ever. Premiering in Q4 2011 exclusively on Yesterday, Find My Past will focus on a well-known moment in British history and use genealogy to connect three seemingly unrelated members of the public to that very familiar event, be it the evacuation of Dunkirk, the sinking of the Titanic or the Jack the Ripper attacks in Victorian London.

Redgrave Partners has announced the appointment of Dan Nathan as Head of Practice Life Sciences. Within this sector he will be responsible for mandated search activity focusing on four main areas: Pharmaceuticals, Biotechnology, Medical Devices/Services and Consumer Healthcare/OTC, across all the main functional areas. He has 10+ years in executive recruitment and more recently was heading a healthcare/life science practice for a retained boutique search business based in London.

Dan has built a very strong reputation, particularly internationally, advising some of the largest life science companies in the world on their talent acquisition strategies. Argyll Scott opens Hong Kong office

International recruiter Argyll Scott has opened an office in Hong Kong.

The office will be led by Shane Sibraa who was previously managing director Greater China and Hong Kong with Robert Walters until 2009.
 
Argyll Scott was launched by executive search firm Redgrave Partners in October last year and is led by Paul Fox, a founding partner of Redgrave Partners.

He has twenty years’ experience in executive recruitment within the Foreign Exchange and Interest Rates marketplace.  Clint began his career in the financial markets in London where he worked as an institutional foreign exchange dealer for eight years.

Redgrave announces the appointment of John Hunter as Non Executive Director

Redgrave Group has announced that John Hunter will join the business as a Non Executive Director on 1 April 2010.  Previously, John worked with Brian Hamill at Imprint, where as Group COO, and latterly as Asia Pacific CEO, he was instrumental in building the business from a start up to circa 600 staff across 15 offices, in 9 countries.   John left Imprint in June 2009 following its acquisition by Premier.

I really don’t know how to thank your company for supporting our ‘cancer crusade’ with such enthusiasm. I suspect the advertising world would consider ‘Redgrave Partners’ ejected cartridges, that flashed past our eyes, as slightly subliminal. However, I hope the combination of the advert in the brochure, the huge banners and my public vote of thanks helped to spread the word of the new ‘brand’. What I do know, having received over 200 emails and letters, was this was a much appreciated, hugely entertaining and financially successful day. I can not thank you enough and if and when my team moves you have my business!
